The world’s steepest funicular has opened at Stoos

Stoos Bahn Launch

A funicular in Central Switzerland beats the world record: The new Stoos Railway with a gradient of 110‰ is the steepest in the world – not to mention 100% included in the Swiss Travel Pass.

On 17 December 2017 the world’s steepest funicular officially entered into operation. The railway allows a year-round connection from the valley direct to the heart of the mountain village Stoos in the Canton of Schwyz – and therefore right to the slopes. The funicular represents the essence of innovation.

Thanks to automatic level compensation, passengers stand on completely level ground at all times. The horizontal entrance and exit points at the stations are perfect for buggies, wheelchairs and luggage transport. The unique experience of riding the new Stoos Railway is fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.
