Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway

From Domodossola to Locarno

The Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway takes passengers from the Italian town of Domodossola to Locarno. On the roughly 50-kilometre-long route, travellers get to enjoy fantastic views. The ride is genuinely tempting: deep ravines, rugged mountain ranges, and 83 bridges.

A journey aboard the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway is still considered somewhat of an insider’s tip. It starts in Domodossola and ends in Locarno. Attentive travellers will take note of the border crossing into Switzerland as the country lines run along a bridge.

The roughly two-hour trip through valleys and picturesque villages is an experience that invites travellers to linger a little longer. Those keen on spending a little time in the valley of the 100 villages can stay overnight in one of the many towns along the route.

The Centovalli Express has been completely modernized in recent years and offers a comfortable travel experience in both 1st and 2nd class. Alternatively, travellers can also book a seat on the Vigezzo Vision with its large panoramic windows.
