The Lago Maggiore Express is an unforgettable excursion by rail and boat. This day trip on Lake Maggiore and through Centovalli (Hundred valleys) as well as the Val Vigezzo can be embarked upon from any stage of the round trip in either direction.

The journey captivates with its rich contrasts. The Vigezzina-Centovalli railway runs for 1.5 hours from Locarno to Domodossola (Italy) through the wildly romantic Hundred Valleys, across flower meadows and dizzyingly high bridges, past waterfalls, and through vineyards and chestnut forests. Travel on the Italian railway from Domodossola to Stresa (Italy) or Arona (Italy) in order to board the boat there. Glide across the whole of Lago Maggiore for three hours, visiting the famous Borromean Islands, Castelli di Cannero or the Brissago Islands on the way.

Route 1: Locarno–Domodossola (Italy): 1 h 50 min (or vice versa)
Route 2: Domodossola (Italy)–Stresa/Arona (Italy): ca. 30 min (or vice versa)
Route 3: Stresa (Italy) – Locarno: ca. 3 h (or vice versa)

Important: For the border crossing from/to Italy, valid travel documents are required.

Vigezzina-Centovalli-Railway:
- Reservation required for groups on the entire route
- Seat reservation for individual travellers possible but not required (surcharge of CHF 5 per seat and stretch)
- On panoramic trains, a surcharge per seat applies on the Italian part of the stretch Domodossola–Camedo (surcharge EUR 1.50 payable directly on the train)
Trenitalia:
- Reservation only required on Eurocity trains
Navigazione Lago Maggiore:
- Seat reservation not required
